Hire Steel Pan Band Drummers
Although the Steel Pan is largely associated with carnival and calypso it has also played a significant role in other forms of music.
In the '70s legendary jazz artists such as Jaco Pastorius realised that pan players like Othello Molineaux were brilliant improvisers who could make a significant contribution to their music, and in the '80s the likes of Grover Washington jnr followed suit. It is impossible to imagine Just The Two Of Us without Robbie Greenidge's unforgettable solo. Other prodigious improvisers such as Ken 'Professor' Philmore, Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe, Andy Narell and Liam Teague have expanded the possibilities of pan as a jazz instrument
Steel Pan In Motion set up Steel Pan Fusion in order to celebrate this rich legacy by hosting a summit meeting of the top pan players from Britain and beyond. Working with a repertoire of cutting edge jazz-fusion, soloists of the highest calibre will come together to showcase the Steel Pan as an instrument with a rich harmonic and melodic as well as rhythmic spectrum.
